Hello, I hope you are having a good weekend.

Here is another from Trinidad and Tobago which I hope you enjoy seeing. It is also one which we can use to learn some interesting history about the first postal service in Trinidad.

The first stamp issued was in 1847  It is famous for being the first stamp issued by a British Colony. It was however not issued by the government but was a private issue. It was the idea of David Bryce who operated a steamer, called the Lady McLeod, between Port of Spain and San Fernando.   This is an example of the actual  stamp with the pen cross cancel

He would carry mail at a rate of 5c per letter but was plagued by the problem of running out of change when customers would pay with large coins.  So he decided to introduce stamps which could be bought individually at 5c or at $4 per 100. The stamps were cancelled by pen in the form of a cross.

The original pen cancel  you might think!

A little bit of nostalgia today.  Earlier today I was reading about the Australian loss to India, rather embarrassing eh!!  and then I came across this MS.    From 46 years ago.  I vaguely remember it.....  or is it that I have ever since tried to wipe away the memory of England losing to Australia in the semi final at Headingley.  Australia did lose to the West Indies in the final  so the pain of the England's loss was made easier to bare :-)

Anyway, this is a nice simple commemorative sheetlet.  The series was the first Cricket World Cup and the first major One Day International tournament.

Hello,  another weekend  disappeared so fast.  I found this on the desk today.  Just had to show it -   for aviation collectors and general collectors......     do you know what  struck me....   200 years of manned flight.        perhaps naively I only think of the past 100 years but in 1783 on 19 October, the Montgolfier brothers launched the first manned flight, a tethered balloon with 3 people on board, at the Folie Titon in Paris.   Tirhis is overprinted SPECIMEN. No idea how I came by it.  Anyone know a  cat value? This was SG MS 133 from the 1982 Bicentenary of manned flight issue.

Have a lovely week.  Monday tomorrow.. stay safe.  Michael
