Hi,  well what a good end to the week, apart from the fact is it pouring with rain here again and, therefore more time indoors  for me and, therefore  more time for me for stamps and, therefore more opportunity for you ............if you are quick..................

Do you know how good it feels to get the Bidstart Store listings to over 6200 then someone buys 70 lots and I have to start all over again :-)  to get the stock numbers up :-)      and do you know that 70 stamps cost the buyer  less them US $11 including postage and packing..   how good a deal is that ...........

I must be doing something right :-) visit http://www.cddstamps.com/bidstart_store.htm … have a great weekend everyone

Tonight  Lawrence Hargrave just because I came across an envelope with a few of these in it and thought you might enjoy this one, and a little about the man.  An Englishman, born in Greenwich who emigrated to Australia with his parents when he was 15.  Got to have some English recognition for this remarkable man :-)  As you may know he had a lot to do with the invention of the flying machine, as in the box kite at the time.
He is quoted as saying ..”The flying machine of the future will not be born fully fledged and capable of a flight for 1000 miles or so. Like everything else it must be evolved gradually. The first difficulty is to get a thing that will fly at all. When this is made, a full description should be published as an aid to others. Excellence of design and workmanship will always defy competition….    he did not patent anything he invented, I think I am right in saying that… How times change.!!
His inventions included the box kite in 1893, which greatly improved the lift to drag ratio of early gliders, curved aerofoils, particularly designs with a thicker leading edge and his work on the rotary engine which powered many early aircraft up until about 1920.
Of great significance to those pioneers working toward powered flight, Hargrave successfully lifted himself off the ground under a train of four of his box kites at Stanwell Park Beach (south of Sydney, Australia)  on 12 November 1894.  Really interesting man and you can read more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Hargrave
Or just enjoy the stamp. copies of which are of course is in my Bidstart Store :-)

Best wishes..   Michael  www.cddstamps.com

Hi, I have been sorting stamps again to list in my Bidstart Store and I came across a few nice examples from Jersey. One thing I try to do in my Store is list a few copies of the same stamp because I know many people like to collect stamps with nice clean and clear used postmarks. This one certainly falls into that category I hope you will agree.

A 1980 issue  to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Royal Geographical Society.  but lets be not so serious for a minute......... lets face it Jersey doesn't have that much to commemorate so any far fetched excuse to issue some new stamps eh!!!!!!!!!!   If you don't believe me about how desperate they are to issue stamps have a look at their new issues, and, looking back,  my favourite (Not) is the 2003 issue "Pets"   LOL.  or maybe it is the 2008 issue "Farm Animals"   oh dear I better stop there I think :-)

Hope you had a great weekend    Michael

Hello, It is Friday so to end the week another stamp from RSA that I found this week.

This is SG 674 issued in 1988  for the 150th Anniversary of the Great Trek. This shows  "Exodus" a tapestry by W Coetzer, a prominent South African artist closely identified with the spirit of Afrikaner Nationalism. He was commissioned to do stamps for this issue and another of his works was included in the set on the 40c stamp, the Crossing of Drakenber. And finally, to add some more context to this issue, given it was a 150th Anniversary:  The Great Trek was an eastward and north-eastward migration away from British control in the Cape Colony during the 1830s and 1840s by Boers (Dutch/Afrikaans for "farmers"). The migrants were descended from settlers from western mainland Europe, most notably from the Netherlands, northwest Germany and French Huguenots. The Great Trek itself led to the founding of numerous Boer republics, the Natalia Republic, the Orange Free State Republic and the Transvaal being the most notable.

How interesting to know what your stamps are showing you. Well I think so.  Have a great weekend.

Michael.

Hello, something different today,  well after so long away from writing. I found this stamp while sorting through some stock. Very large stamp it is as well.  Not one of my favourites I have to say but just goes to show how designs vary from country to country. And to find this in very nice condition surprised me.

Having writers block again so that is it for now. enjoy your stamps..  Best wishes...Michael
